Walk through the house at your own pace without speaking. 18 Folgate Street is famous for the quality of its silence, enlivened only by ticking clocks, distant church bells and horse-drawn carriages passing. You will discover that when there is no chatter, you grow more aware of the fragrances of each of the rooms. Compounded by the house’s intricate visual detail, this is an intense experience for all the senses.

Last admission is 45 minutes before closing time.

Essential Information

  • Please be punctual for your visit. Latecomers cannot be admitted.
  • Tickets are non-refundable and may not be exchanged or transferred.
  • Please note that there are no toilet facilities at Dennis Severs’ House. We recommend the extensive free cloakrooms at Liverpool Street Station.
  • One ticket is valid for one guest only.
  • Those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult – one adult per child.
  • Visits involve walking around the house and climbing stairs. Due to the age and character of the building – its dim lighting, uneven floors, steep stairs and other hazards – you must follow safety instructions from the staff.
  • Stiletto heels cannot be worn because they damage the fabric of the building.
  • Only handbags and small backpacks are allowed in the house. You will be asked to carry these in your hand or wear them on your front. We do not have space to store luggage or pushchairs.

For more information, please read our Terms & Conditions before your visit.

Accessibility

The house is an 18th-century building with uneven floors and many stairs. Sadly this means access is not always possible and we are unable to offer wheelchair access. Visitors must be able to evacuate the building unaided or with the support of their designated carer.
